Unauthorized colonies the Delhi government may have shown sympathy to people living in unauthorized colonies of Delhi, but in reality, the government does not have information related to these colonies. The Delhi Government, which convenes the assembly session on every small issue, has not passed a resolution to regularize these colonies even once in the Assembly and sent it to the central government. This fact of the Delhi government has come out in the information provided by her own Urban Development Department under the Right to Information Act. The government does not even have a figure of population living in these colonies. There is a question as to what is the basis of the plans for the development work in these colonies. On the basis of which the false promises of spending crores of rupees here are publicized among the public.
This information was sought from the Union Urban Development Ministry: There are so many colonies in Delhi which are called irregular or invalid. How much land it is sitting on, how much government and non-government land is. How many populations live in these colonies? How many times has the Delhi Assembly passed the resolution to regularize these colonies and sent it to the Urban Development Ministry. Is there any plan for this kind of colony in the future and not settled in the future?
Ministry gave this answer: The answer to all these questions was given by the Under Secretary of the Union Urban Development Ministry, saying that the Ministry does not have any information about the number of colonies, but citing the website of the Delhi Government, they said that there are 1639 records. He also informed the other questions about the lack of information about the Ministry, that the entire Delhi government is accountable for the settling of these colonies, regularizing them.
Delhi Government Said: The Public Information Officer of the Urban Development Department of Delhi Government has also informed under the jurisdiction of the information that the department does not have information that the number of unauthorized colonies has settled on land. There are so many governmental and non-governmental land in it. How many populations live in these colonies? The Urban Development Department has also made it clear that the Delhi Assembly has passed a resolution to regularize these colonies even once and not to the Central Government.
This reply of the department is also open to the claims of leaders who claim that we passed the resolution in the assembly and sent it to the central government, but the policy of the Center is not to regularize these colonies.
Government agencies do not even know how many unauthorized colonies have settled on land and how many populations live in them. When these two key information is not available to them, then how can the right plan be expected for these areas? Development of any place is possible only if the right figure of population and land will be there. Sewer lines and water supply etc. are planned according to the population and the land. Wherever this is not a perfect figure, the development work done proved to be worthless. Sukhdev Singh, RTI activist
